Research, identify, and implement best practices by examining programs and practices already in place, and creating a think tank to address the needs of traumatized children. PROVIDE TRAINING TO HEALTH, EDUCATIONAL AND JUDICIAL PROFESSIONALS IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN. Facilitate the education of health care providers, teachers and judicial professionals for a better understanding of needs specific to traumatized children, and encourage appropriately trained health professionals to accept foster/adopted children and their families as patients. DEVELOP AND TRAIN A WORKFORCE WITH KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ABOUT THE HEALTH AND THERAPEUTIC NEEDS OF FOSTER & ADOPTED CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. Develop multi-media-based curricula concerning traumatized children. Implement educational initiatives for therapists & psychologists, caseworkers, judges, attorneys, child advocates, parents and kin, which are based on best practice standards. ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE “There is no higher standard of civilian responsibility than to ensure governments protection of its most vulnerable citizens.” Jim FitzGerald, Executive Director, Intermountain DEVELOP A STATEWIDE FOSTER CARE ALLIANCE Identify members and form a coalition of key organizations, agencies and individuals to pursue common short and long-term strategies to improve the health and well-being of children in foster care. CREATE A LEGISLATIVE AGENDA TO MEET THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE. Identify, create, and nurture potential champions at the state level. Develop a public policy agenda aimed at improving the health and well-being of children in foster care, adequate funding for their families, and strategies for pursuing the agenda.
